Evaporate (2025)

Dimensions (installation): 300 cm x 250 cm x 40 cm
Materials: variety of plants, electronic mist units, wires, microscope photos printed.
Evaporate  is a project within the larger collaborative installation Damp, created with Andrew Mortly. This work explores the forced migration of plants for scientific purposes, questioning the conditions under which they are made to thrive in artificial, often hostile climates. By attaching a mist unit, the plants expel water into the air, creating a visual representation of the varying amounts of moisture they retain in their leaves. This process aims to categorize plants based on their water-holding capacities.
The plants are placed atop printed microscope images of their species, offering a new perspective on their intricate structures. Evaporate invites viewers to consider the impact of scientific manipulation on plant life and the delicate balance required for survival in unfamiliar environments.
