Lea 10.24 (2024)

Dimensions (framed): 86 cm x 61 cm x 7 cm
Materials: algae from the river Lea, embroidery thread, water-soluble fabric.

Lea 10.24 is part of the River Threads series, this work traces an intimate connection with the River Lea — a waterway I’ve come to know through rowing, observing, and witnessing its cycles of life and pollution. To create the piece, I harvested and dried local water plants, then embroidered them into fabric over many nights, using slow, tactile methods to mirror the river’s own rhythms. Often dismissed as polluted or unremarkable, the Lea carries deep ecological and emotional weight. This work reflects on its fragility and calls for radical care.
